SUMMARY 

 

The EHS Specialist supports the implementation, preservation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs at the Tempe, Arizona Service Center. The role works directly with site leadership, employees, and the regional EHS team to identify hazards, support regulatory compliance, investigate incidents, maintain required documentation, and strengthen a proactive safety culture.

The EHS Specialist serves as a hands-on EHS resource for the Tempe Service Center and supports compliance with OSHA, EPA, state and local requirements, company EHS standards, and the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS). This position is intended for an EHS professional with approximately 2–4 years of relevant experience who can independently manage routine EHS responsibilities while escalating higher-risk or complex matters to EHS leadership.

Duties

 

EHS Program Implementation & Compliance

  • Support implementation and consistent execution of company EHS policies, programs, procedures, and standards at the Tempe, Arizona Service Center.
  • Conduct routine safety, environmental, and compliance inspections; document findings and track corrective actions through closure.
  • Identify workplace hazards and unsafe conditions and work with site leadership and employees to implement practical corrective actions.
  • Support compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, state, and local EHS requirements and escalate significant compliance concerns to EHS leadership.
  • Maintain required EHS records, permits, logs, inspections, and supporting documentation in an organized and audit-ready manner.
  • Assist with annual chemical inventories, SDS management, hazardous materials requirements, and applicable environmental reporting.
  • Support hazardous and universal waste management, labeling, accumulation-area inspections, vendor coordination, and shipment documentation as applicable.
  • Support stormwater, air, wastewater, spill prevention, and other environmental compliance programs applicable to the Tempe Service Center.

 

Safety Programs, Training & Employee Engagement

  • Identify site-specific EHS training requirements and assist with scheduling, delivery, completion tracking, and documentation.
  • Support respiratory protection, hearing conservation, PPE, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, emergency preparedness, and other applicable safety programs.
  • Assist with development and annual review of Job Safety and Environmental Analyses (JSEAs), ensuring hazards, required PPE, environmental waste streams, and controls are accurately identified.
  • Promote employee hazard and near-miss reporting and reinforce a “See It, Say It, Fix It” mindset.
  • Partner with Safety Champions, supervisors, and employees to strengthen site safety culture.
  • Support contractor EHS orientation and contractor safety requirements when applicable.

 

Incident Management & Corrective Actions

  • Assist with incident, injury, near-miss, spill, and property-damage investigations, including fact gathering, root-cause analysis, corrective action development, and follow-up.
  • Ensure unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and audit findings are entered into the EHS management system and progressed to timely closure.
  • Analyze recurring findings, incident trends, and EHS performance data to identify opportunities for prevention and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate significant incidents, regulatory concerns, or overdue corrective actions to EHS leadership and appropriate site leadership.

 

ISO 14001 EMS & Audit Support

  • Support the Tempe Service Center in applying for an ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management System, including aspects and impacts, compliance obligations, objectives, operational controls, and documented information.
  • Participate in internal EHS and EMS audits and support external regulatory, customer, and certification audits.
  • Assist with audit preparation, evidence collection, corrective action development, and verification of completed actions.
  • Support evaluation of compliance activities and maintenance of records demonstrating environmental compliance status.

 

Operational & Site Support

  • Participate in reviews of new equipment, chemicals, processes, and facility changes that may affect employee safety, environmental impacts, or regulatory compliance.
  • Provide day-to-day EHS guidance to Tempe Service Center employees and supervisors and coordinate with EHS leadership on complex or higher-risk issues.
  • Support emergency preparedness, drills, business continuity activities, and response planning for the Tempe Service Center.
  • Attend Tempe Service Center EHS and operational meetings and provide updates on safety performance, open corrective actions, compliance requirements, and improvement opportunities.
  • Travel to assigned the Tempe Service Center as required to support inspections, training, audits, investigations, and EHS projects.
  • Perform other duties and EHS projects as assigned.

 

Physical Demands

 

Tasks require walking, sitting, bending, reaching, mobility, and periodic work in office and manufacturing environments. The employee must be able to conduct facility inspections and may occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds.   • Working knowledge of occupational safety and environmental compliance principles, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
  • Ability to recognize hazards, evaluate routine EHS risks, and recommend practical corrective actions.

  • Ability to conduct inspections, training, investigations, and audits and document results accurately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort using electronic EHS management systems.
  • Ability to work independently on routine assignments while recognizing when escalation to EHS leadership is required.
  • Ability to work onsite at the Tempe, Arizona Service Center and support the facility’s day-to-day EHS needs. Occasional travel may be required for company meetings or EHS training.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in Environmental, Health & Safety, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, service, or technical environment.
  • Experience supporting OSHA compliance, environmental programs, inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, and EHS training preferred.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or another environmental management system preferred.
  • Experience with hazardous waste, chemical management, stormwater, air, wastewater, or other environmental compliance programs is a plus.

 

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Experience using an EHS management system or similar electronic tracking/database system preferred.

 

Language Skills

  • The ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing is essential. Reports, training materials, investigation documentation, email correspondence, and presentations are typical requirements of this position.

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Basic mathematical skills and the ability to interpret EHS metrics, rates, measurements, and environmental data are required.

 

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems, evaluate risk, identify root causes, and apply established EHS requirements to changing workplace conditions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accurate documentation and timely follow-through.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are required at the time of hire and periodically thereafter.
  • OSHA 30-Hour, HAZWOPER, RCRA/DOT hazardous materials training, or similar EHS credentials are preferred or must be obtained as assigned.
  • ASP, GSP, CHMM, or similar professional certification is preferred but not required.

 

 

TOOLS AND/OR EQUIPMENT 

 

This position uses a computer extensively and may use standard EHS inspection, monitoring, and sampling equipment as assigned. The employee must be able to use common office equipment and required personal protective equipment.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

This position is based at the Tempe, Arizona Service Center and works in office, service, warehouse, and industrial work areas. Exposure to noise, chemicals, moving equipment, and other industrial hazards may occur; required PPE and established safety procedures must be followed.

Targeted Compensation: The targeted compensation range for this position is $82,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually, depending on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.
