Job summary
As a Strategic Supplier Development, you lead strategic sourcing and suppliers development for new product introduction, transfer and running production that enhances supply chain resilience, quality, cost-efficiency, and compliances. You analyze markets, evaluate suppliers pool, and work with R&D/ENG to identify how/who/where is the best for organization. The position provides a critical proactive role for supplier readiness for volume increases, new product launches, and alternative sourcing strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic sourcing – Projects and Running production
- Own sourcing strategy for assigned categories across NPI, transfers, and serial production; run make‑vs‑buy, market scans, and supplier shortlists.
- Lead RFx/Bidding/eAuctions, analyze total cost of ownership (TCO), and recommend awards with clear business cases.
- Coordinate with R&D/Engineering on specifications/drawings for design to cost/design for manufacturing
- Work with QA for supplier and first‑article/PPAP/FAI qualification.
- Supplier Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop and implement Supplier Improvement Plans for suppliers based on their performance in quality, delivery, and cost.
- Negotiation & Cost Management
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery conditions with suppliers while ensuring adherence to company policies.
- Contribute to cost-saving initiatives through strategic sourcing, bundling, or alternative supplier evaluation.
- Monitor market prices and trends to make informed purchasing decisions and mitigate risks from volatility.
- Procurement Administration
- Ensure timely creation, accuracy, and completeness of purchase orders and procurement documentation in the ERP system (SAP, etc.).
- Maintain accurate supplier and material master data records.
- Monitor open orders and update delivery time.
- Collaborate with finance to resolve invoice discrepancies and ensure timely supplier payments.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with planning, production, R&D, and logistics to align procurement activities with operational requirements.
- Participate in projects (transfer or new development) by sourcing new goods or services.
- Support engineering changes, part substitutions, and discontinuation processes with timely sourcing adjustments.
- Collaborate with Global Lead Buyer to align development strategies.
- Compliance & Risk Mitigation
- Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies, corporate ethics, and industry regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments of key suppliers and support mitigation planning for high-risk or single-source items.
- Maintain documentation and audit trails in line with ISO, IATF, or other relevant standards.
Qualifications
- Functional Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/ electrical engineering or a similar field required.
- 5+ years of experience in a similar strategic sourcing and suppliers development position.
- Advanced strategic sourcing and supplier development, cost analysis (should‑cost/TCO/cost structure/cost driven).
- Supplier qualification & development (APQP/PPAP/FAI) and categories knowledge in machenic/electronic/electro-machenical/sheet metal.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement modules (e.g., SAP MM, Oracle, IFS).
- Understanding of supply chain processes and supplier performance metrics.
