SUMMARY

Responsible for performing on-site, troubleshooting, repair, or exchange of all a models of pumps installed at the customer site.

Duties

  1. Regular shift will be Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. May change to compressed shift in the future.
  2. Uses a wide range of hand and power tools, measuring devices, and meters, to install, test, troubleshoot, and repair dry pumps.
  3. Ability to work and be successful in stressful working conditions
  4. Ability to multi-task and prioritize customer requests
  5. Effectively communicate updates and statuses on pump repairs or exchanges to the customer
  6. Provides technical and service support to customers.
  7. Provide daily pass down information and updates to co-workers as necessary
  8. Responsible for communication about spares levels to service center
  9. Successfully complete proactive walkthrough inspections
  10. Determine roots cause of pump fails, communicate with customer about possible repairs or solutions to avoid excessive downtime and production stop-loss.
  11. Review data from pump fails, inform customer of findings and recommend corrective actions.
  12. Notify Technical Support of any reoccurring pump fails at low MTBF and become part of the solution to reduce these failures.
  13. Inform Supervisor of any DOA pumps, failed component or leaks that occur at the time of install. Provide detailed notes and recommendations to eliminate future failures.
  14. Stay up to date on all new Pfeiffer products, and Service Bulletins related to the products you support. Attend and participate in all training on these products as required.
  15. Ability to communicate and supply data to the Technical Support Team, Field Service Supervisor, or Pfeiffer Management on any items that seem out of the normal. Example: Pump Failures at low MTBF, or with similar failure mechanism.
  16. Exercise and utilize 6S principles 
  17. Follow standard operating procedures and accurately fill out required check sheets 
  18. Work safely and always be willing to stop and ask as needed
  19. Additional tasks related to Pfeiffer Vacuum’s install base may be requested by customer (if appropriate and safe for the FSE to complete)

Tasks require walking, sitting, bending, reaching, mobility, frequent lifting and pushing/pulling. Work requires computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, and data-entry), attention to detail and accuracy. Communication skills including listening and speaking are required for interaction with other employees, vendors, and customers. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to balance multiple tasks and any stress associated with the duties and responsibilities of this position are essential requirements in the performance of this job.

 

Additionally, must be able to manipulate small and large tools to test, repair or exchange dry pumps as needed. The person in this job must be able to lift tools and equipment weighing up to sixty pounds. The position requires regular lifting of 25-pound equipment plus frequent pushing of heavy equipment that is mounted on wheels. The position requires the ability to stand most of the day and to be able to maneuver equipment into the correct spot at the customer’s facility.

 

Secondary duties with added requirements may be assigned from time to time.

General Qualifications

Strong organizational and creative problem-solving skills as well as good planning and technical equipment troubleshooting skills required. Ability to work under tight deadlines in a dynamic group environment is necessary. Experience in vacuum technology is essential, as is knowledge of the field service type requirements that this position will support. Ability to review data from customer, make data driven decisions and work with customer to support these decisions.

 

Education and/or Experience

Requires a 2-year technical degree, BA or Military Certificate or 2 years of experience as a field service engineer. Previous experience in a semiconductor fab environment is a plus. Knowledge of company related products in vacuum technology is a plus. High level of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills necessary.

 

 

Language Skills

The ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing is essential. Reports email correspondence, schedules, are all typical requirements of this position and must be effectively and professionally communicated. This position also serves as a key liaison between the customer and the Company and must articulate critical needs, issues, situations, and plans to keep customer satisfaction high.

 

Mathematical Skills

Vacuum measurements, and base and rate of rise calculations. Product exchange, installations and maintenance are all requirements of this position.

 

Reasoning Ability

The ability to understand the customers’ requirements and plan the support strategy is essential. Must be able to solve both practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of factors in situations where only limited standardization exists.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Driver’s License.

 

TOOLS AND/OR EQUIPMENT

This position uses a computer extensively with demonstrated abilities in the use of Microsoft products as well as other common office type equipment. The Field Service Engineer is also a leading authority on the proper assembly and maintenance of the Company’s equipment.

 

 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will work at the customer’s site to support the Company’s employees and the customer’s representatives.
