SUMMARY

The Field Service Engineer serves as the on-site technical authority, responsible for resolving high-complexity system issues, supporting new tool installs and fab ramps, and mentoring junior field engineers. Deep hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems, including vacuum and pump systems, pneumatics, controls, advanced ECat/ENet Based Control, PLC/Server Based Network Architecture, Fluid delivery, and 400 V-class power and drive systems, and thrives in high-volume manufacturing (HVM) environments.

 

Duties

  • Serve as the primary senior technical resource supporting semiconductor tools at Arizona customer sites.
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve complex, multi-discipline system issues across mechanical, electrical, vacuum, pneumatic, and control subsystems.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve tool uptime, MTBF, and reliability.
  • Support tool installations, start-ups, upgrades, and major recoveries, including new fab ramp activities.
  • Interface directly with customer engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
  • Coordinate escalations with internal OEM groups including product engineering, sustaining engineering, and logistics.
  • Mentor and train junior Field Engineers and Technicians assigned to Arizona fabs.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, reports, and escalation records.
  • Ensure strict compliance with cleanroom, safety, and EHS requirements.

Tasks require walking, sitting, bending, reaching, mobility, frequent lifting and pushing/pulling.  Work requires computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, and data-entry), attention to detail and accuracy.   Communication skills including listening and speaking are required for interaction with other employees, vendors, and customers. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to balance multiple tasks and any stress associated with the duties and responsibilities of this position are essential requirements in the performance of this job.

 

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to ~35 lbs, bending, climbing, and working in confined equipment spaces
  • Willingness to support shift work, weekends, and on-call rotations as required
  • Comfortable working in cleanroom environments with full PPE
  • Ability to special field fixtures, perform maintenance on failed part to replace or troubleshoot
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with customer process, equipment, and facilities teams

  • Strong Communication skills with global-footprint RD/Sales/Total Product Support teams

  • Ability to use web-based Portals for document control and data entry.
  • The person in this job will be primarily assigned to support Arizona fabs; with some out-of-state travel (<%30), and out-of-country travel for training. This person in this role must be able to travel by air and vehicle both domestically and internationally in order to visit our customers’ locations, as well as our factories.  The ability to drive a car and maintain a valid driver’s license in order to travel is also required.
  • Secondary duties with added requirements may be assigned from time to time.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma/GED- Required

AA degree and/or minimum of 1 year of related experience in the Service and Repair field of electronic or mechanical equipment- Preferred

 

  • Prior experience supporting Arizona fabs (e.g., TSMC, Intel, or similar large-scale sites)
  • Strong background in sub-fab systems, vacuum infrastructure, and pump interfaces
  • Experience supporting new tool installs and ramp-to-production transitions
  • Track record of driving service KPI improvements and customer satisfaction

Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system drawings, interconnects, Control Software User Interface,
  • Advanced troubleshooting experience with:
  • Vacuum systems (dry pumps, turbo pumps, forelines, gauges, exhaust interfaces)
  • Pneumatic systems (valves, regulators, manifolds, actuators)
  • Fluid Delivery Systems
  • Precision mechanical assemblies and diligent workmanship
  • Solid background in electrical systems, including:
  • Control cabinets, I/O, interlocks, sensors
  • Advance Control and Monitoring PLC/Server Based Architecture
  • 400 V-class power distribution, VFDs, servo drives,
  • LOTO
  • Working knowledge of PLC/Server-based controls, and User Interface/HMI systems for diagnostics and configuration
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools such as teaching pendants, remote-diagnostics, multimeters, current probes, and oscilloscopes
  • SW Troubleshooting/Upgrade: FW, SW, Log Files Collection and implementation of upgrades

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline, Associate’s degree in Electronics / Engineering Technology plus significant relevant field experience, or equivalent military technical training (electronics, avionics, power systems, industrial maintenance) with progressive field service experience

 

Experience:

  • 8–10+ years of experience supporting semiconductor capital equipment or equivalent high-reliability industrial systems. Demonstrated ability to work independently as a senior field engineer in production fab environments. Proven experience leading complex technical escalations and customer-facing issue resolution
  • Language Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Scheduling of product installations and maintenance are all requirements of this position.
  • Reasoning Ability: The ability to understand the customers’ requirements and plan the support strategy is essential.  Must be able to solve both practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of factors in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: This position requires frequent travel to and from the customer site.  A valid passport and driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are required at the time of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Travel Requirements: Additional travel to support secondary customer accounts both inside and outside of Arizona will be required as necessary (up to 30%).  Eligibility for International travel is required as factory training (France, Germany, or Vietnam) will be provided as necessary.
