Role Purpose

The Sourcing Engineer / Sourcing Specialist is responsible for executing sourcing activities for technical components and industrial commodities, ensuring competitive cost, reliable supply, and alignment with Busch quality and operational requirements. The role supports supplier selection, RFQ execution, quote analysis, supplier development, and sourcing project follow-up across assigned commodities such as castings, machining, sheet metal, cable assemblies, and other technical materials.

The position combines commercial sourcing responsibility with technical understanding and works closely with engineering, quality, logistics, operations, and suppliers to secure practical and cost-effective solutions.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Core Expectations

Sourcing Execution

  • Manage sourcing activities for assigned commodities and support daily RFQ flow.
  • Prepare, launch, and follow up RFQs with qualified suppliers.
  • Check that technical packages are complete enough for quotation and coordinate missing information with internal stakeholders.
  • Compare quotations on commercial and technical aspects and prepare recommendation summaries.
  • Support sourcing decisions for new parts, re-sourcing actions, transfers, and cost optimization projects.

Supplier Management

  • Identify potential new suppliers and assess existing suppliers for capability, capacity, quality, delivery, and cost competitiveness.
  • Support supplier onboarding and qualification together with quality and technical functions.
  • Maintain regular communication with suppliers regarding quotations, clarification points, lead times, and improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor supplier responsiveness and support resolution of delivery, quality, or commercial issues.

Cost, Negotiation, and Analysis

  • Support price negotiations and commercial discussions with suppliers.
  • Analyze quotations, cost drivers, and benchmark offers across suppliers.
  • Maintain cost transparency for assigned parts and commodities.
  • Contribute to savings, cost avoidance, and standardization initiatives.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, quality, logistics, production, and finance to align sourcing activities with business needs.
  • Support manufacturability discussions, supplier feasibility checks, and technical-commercial clarification meetings.
  • Coordinate sourcing actions across Busch / Pfeiffer entities when relevant.
  • Provide structured updates on RFQs, supplier status, risks, and open actions.

Risk and Continuity

  • Identify sourcing risks related to supplier concentration, capacity, lead time, or market conditions.
  • Propose mitigation actions such as alternate sourcing, supplier expansion, or phased transfer planning.
  • Support continuity of supply by proactively following critical RFQs and escalation topics.

Profile

Functional Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain, business, industrial management, or a comparable field.
  • Experience in sourcing, procurement, supplier management, or technical purchasing in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Good understanding of technical commodities such as castings, machining, sheet metal, cable assemblies, or similar components.
  • Practical experience with RFQ management, supplier comparison, and commercial negotiation.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and understand basic manufacturing processes is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Methodological Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Structured working style with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage several RFQs and priorities in parallel.
  • Capability to translate technical and commercial inputs into clear sourcing recommendations.

  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally.

Additional Advantages
