POSITION SUMMARY
The Import and Export Specialist tracks and manages all international shipments, ensures full compliance with global trade laws and regulations, and supports operations. The role will support classification activities under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), liaise with customs brokers, and ensure documentation meets all legal and organizational requirements. This role is structured with three levels to support career progression.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Monitor and update tracking for all international shipments in real time.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing shipping documents, including commercial invoices, HTS classifications, and customs paperwork.
- Support FTZ documentation and record-keeping processes.
- Coordinate with customs brokers to ensure compliant and timely clearance.
- Liaison with Purchasing to ensure on-time delivery of shipments at the facility.
- Maintain accurate internal records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Independently manage import/export transactions, including FTZ admissions, withdrawals, and filings.
- Ensure proper HTS classification of all imported/exported goods.
- Interface with customs brokers and government agencies to resolve clearance issues.
- Assist in internal and external audits related to import/export activity.
- Support ongoing broker license preparation and training initiatives.
- Lead and oversee the organization’s FTZ operations (if applicable) and ensure full regulatory compliance.
- Supervise HTS classification strategies and ensure tariff accuracy across the product catalog.
- Manage customs broker relationships and evaluate performance and compliance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. Customs regulations, FTZ compliance, and HTS rulings.
- Guides trade optimization strategies and duty mitigation.
- Lead or support preparation for CTPAT, internal audits, and government reviews.
- Mentor junior specialists and provide in-house training on FTZ, HTS, and licensing topics.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, Preferred
Experience:
- Level 1

- 0–2 years of experience in international logistics or trade compliance.
- Exposure to import/export documentation and logistics systems.
- Basic knowledge of HTS and FTZ is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ERP/logistics system experience is a plus.
- Interest in pursuing a U.S. Customs Broker License is encouraged.
- Experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is an asset.
- Level 2

- 3–5 years of experience in international trade or logistics, with direct experience in FTZ operations and HTS classification.
- Solid understanding of customs brokerage processes and U.S. trade regulations.
- Experience working with customs brokers and managing import/export documentation.
- Familiarity with ACE, AES, and other government reporting systems.
- Actively pursuing or holding a U.S. Customs Broker License is highly preferred.
- Level 3

- 6+ years of experience in international trade, import/export, or compliance, including FTZ operations and HTS classification.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations, including 19 CFR, CBP requirements, and FTZ compliance.
- Active U.S. Customs Broker License required.
- Proven ability to manage trade compliance programs and interface with CBP and other agencies.
- Strong leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Computer Skills:
Proficient use of MS Office Products: Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint. Prior experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems is a plus
Certifications & Licenses:
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher – ASQ or equivalent
- Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD) – APICS
