Industrial & Systems Engineer

Busch Vacuum Solutions is a leading manufacturer of vacuum pumps, compressors, and blowers for use in industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, food processing, metallurgy, biomedical, and material handling.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Industrial & Systems Engineer to join our Regional Distribution Center (RDC) team in Chesapeake, Virginia.

This is a fully onsite position. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM ET to 3:30 PM ET, with flexibility required based on business needs and operational requirements.

The Industrial & Systems Engineer provides engineering and technical support to help achieve operational goals through the continuous improvement of equipment, materials, processes, and manufacturing practices. This role focuses on optimizing processes, improving efficiency, implementing lean methodologies, analyzing workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and developing solutions that enhance productivity while maintaining quality standards. The position works closely with cross-functional teams to implement improvements and support successful project execution.

Targeted Compensation: The targeted compensation range for this position is $92,000–$114,000 annually, depending on the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement using tools such as Excel, Python, Power BI, and ERP systems, with SAP highly preferred.
• Utilize Time Studies and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to analyze current processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and implement efficient workflows and layout configurations using methodologies such as Kanban, Kaizen, and 5S to optimize resource utilization and minimize bottlenecks.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures and process improvements incorporating methodologies such as Six Sigma, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and RCA (Root Cause Analysis).
• Optimize warehouse operations by collaborating with supply chain partners across inventory management, order fulfillment, and logistics to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Construct and update capacity models using product, process, equipment, and labor data to support capacity planning.
• Utilize discrete event simulation techniques to model and analyze complex systems, identify bottlenecks, and optimize throughput.
• Conduct cost analysis, including ROI calculations, to evaluate the financial impact of proposed process improvements and prepare reports and recommendations for management review.
• Manage projects using project management software such as Microsoft Project, ensuring timely completion and delivery of objectives.
• Lead lean initiatives and continuous improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and achieve operational goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or technical school: Required; degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business: Preferred.
• Four (4+) years of experience in a manufacturing production control environment utilizing a modern ERP system required.
• Strong ERP systems experience; SAP highly preferred.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience conducting statistical data analysis using tools such as Excel, R Programming/Python, and Power BI preferred.
• Experience with Statistical Process Control methodologies and Minitab or similar statistical analysis software preferred.
• Experience with Value Stream Mapping, facility layout and planning, Lean principles, and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
• Experience utilizing AutoCAD or equivalent software for facility layout and planning preferred.
• Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt training/certification preferred.
• Experience utilizing SolidWorks or other CAD software preferred.
• Experience with capacity analysis techniques and discrete event simulation tools such as Python for operational modeling and optimization preferred.
• Experience with engineering documentation processes, including ECO procedures, BOMs, Item Masters, and documentation filing systems preferred.
• Experience preparing technical documentation, including engineering test protocols, engineering test reports, and manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures preferred.
• Knowledge of engineering methodologies related to manufacturing stainless steel, high-vacuum chambers, and components preferred.
• Experience utilizing Microsoft Project or similar project management software preferred.
• Experience applying structured problem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC, 8D, and PDCA preferred.

Job Requirements

• Ability and willingness to pass a 10-panel drug screen and 7-year criminal history check.
  • Most felonies are a disqualifier, misdemeanors are considered on a case-by-case basis
• Must be willing and able to utilize all required PPE.
• Valid driver's license required and must meet Busch insurance requirements.
• Ability and willingness to travel (up to 10%) including occasional domestic and international travel. Overnight stays may be required.
• Employment with Busch Vacuum Solutions requires current work authorization in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional standing, walking, climbing, squatting or kneeling, bending, reaching, and lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent sitting and speaking.
• Must be able to meet the vision, hearing, and other sensory requirements of the position and wear all required PPE, including safety glasses, safety footwear, and hearing protection as needed.
